Pacific Blue Retail’s carbon neutral electricity plans are no longer available for new customers. To view our other plans, please visit our retail energy brand, Tango Energy, at tangoenergy.com. What is carbon offsetting? Carbon offsetting helps to compensate for the emissions created by the supply of electricity to your home or business by supporting certified Australian and global projects that reduce, remove, or store carbon dioxide. These projects generate carbon credits - financial units representing one tonne of greenhouse gas emissions that have been avoided or otherwise removed by an accredited project. Pacific Blue’s energy plans For existing customers on Climate Active certified plans, Pacific Blue purchases and surrenders carbon credits to account for unavoidable emissions associated with the supply of electricity to your home or business. Pacific Blue’s carbon credits are sourced from the Chacayes Hydroelectric Project, owned and operated by our sister company Pacific Hydro Chile. This project generates approximately half a million-megawatt hours of electricity per year for the Chilean central electricity grid. As a large renewable hydroelectric generator, this project has helped the Chilean grid to displace fossil fuel energy sources that would have otherwise been used to supply electricity consumers in Chile.1 Find out more about our Climate Active certified products It is important to note that while carbon credits support initiatives focused on reducing net global carbon emissions, your electricity continues to be supplied from the grid which is sourced from a mix of fossil fuel and renewable sources.
